Imagine this scenario…

You have been working for the same leader for over a decade.
You are damn good at your job.
You go over and above each and every day.
In fact, you are so good, you have been given the extra responsibility to oversee a very important project (on top of your existing role).
You are super excited.
The only issue is you are feeling a little undervalued and pretty ripped off in the compensation stakes.
You know what you gotta do - it’s time to pluck up the courage and ask your boss for that well-deserved pay rise!

Who feels sick at even the thought of this conversation?

Enter into the equation, ELON MUSK.

Founder of Telsa Motors and SpaceX, Billionaire and all-around pretty intimidating kinda character.

According to Ashlee Vance, in her biography “Elon Musk”, this is allegedly the scenario for his Executive Assistant, of 12 years, Mary Beth Brown.

The story goes that Elon told Mary, if she was truly critical to the SpaceX program, that the program should not be able to operate in her absence (or something to that effect).  

He suggested they undertake a 2-week experiment. He suggested she take a two-week break whereby he would assume her responsibilities in that time to test this hypothesis. Essentially to test her worth!

My question to you is: WOULD YOU PASS THE TEST?

Musk has come out and denied these claims. 

His ex-wife, on the other hand, recalls a similar test when she was away for a week and Elon tested her 'domestic duties’, to which she said she failed miserably!

Regardless of whether or not it is true or not, it does pose a good question. 

What value do you add? 

Do you know?
Can you articulate it?
Can other people see your worth? 

You need to be able to answer these questions if you want to supercharge your career!
